Relational Causality: Straws

This RECAST activity helps students explore what causes the liquid to go up a straw when they drink from it. It encourages a shift from a simple linear model where they are the causal agent ("I suck and make the liquid come up") to a relational causal model where a differential in pressure accounts for the outcome.

Non-Obvious Causes: Condensation

This RECAST activity helps students think about the problem of where condensation comes from. Many students think it must come through the glass because they focus on the obvious source of moisture. The activity encourages them to attend to the non-obvious ambient water vapor. This is the first start in a shift from a linear causal model to a relational causal model.
